PSG Overcomes Marseille on Penalties to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the prestigious trophy on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match between the French league winners and the Coupe de France winners after Ousmane Dembele found the scoring early on.

However, Marseille struck twice late to seize a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital equaliser in the dying moments to send the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, stopping crucial kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 shootout victory.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past 13 years.
